Zimbabwe’s Makoto to face Kovalev in Russia at World Cup
JULY 4, 2021
International Master Rodwell Makoto to play the Belarusian Grand
Master who is highly rated than the Zimbabwean player. International
Master Rodwell Makoto whose Fide rating is 2352 will face Vladislav
Kovalev whose ratings are 2637 for standard, 2633 in Rapid and 2573 in
blitz.Though the Belarusian’s ratings are higher than those of Rodwell
Makoto there was a lot of hope from the players in Zimbabwe.
One of the top players Emarald Mushore opined that, ” Makoto has got a chance
to make it to the next round.” While others just considered the rating
and said that Makoto may go down looking at the ratings differences.
Makoto was expecting to have this stiff competition as he mentioned
about it , however he was quick to say that he was equal to the task. Kovalev had a dire wild card from the Fide
President Arkday Dvokovich. The young player has a point to prove to
the 33 year old Makoto. Makoto however will be carrying the hopes of the country after he becomes the second player to represent the
country. Robert Gwaze was the first to do so then Makoto followed, but
the way they qualified is different.
