U8 Zimbabwe National Champ 2016 is Knights Chess Academy’s
Tawananyasha Mawire!…he fought very aggressively like the Macedonian Alexander the Great!..
As Knights Chess Academy Zimbabwe we had our first private one on one session with this young boy at his home in January 2015 when he was starting his grade 1. Its now paying back! Now he is in grade 2 at Avondale Primary in Harare and he collected an amazing 7/7 at the National Championship Level!
The way he fought reminds me of the Macedonian (Greek) Alexander the Great…! ….At the Granicus River in 334 B.C.E in the northwest corner of Asia Minor (now Turkey), Alexander in his very youthful age won his first major battle against the Persians. That winter he conquered western Asia Minor. The following autumn the great Persian King Darius III with an army of about half a million men fought Alexander who had a small but efficient army of 30 000 foot soldiers and 500 cavalrymen.
The Persians were unprepared for the suddenness and vehemence of the Macedonian attack! Alexander’s forces utterly defeated the Persian army, and Darius fled, abandoning his family to Alexander’s hands! In this way Tawananyasha demolished all his opponents in a surprising way…
The Zimbabwe Junior National Chess Championship ended on a high note with the Harare Province collecting a total of 9 medals followed by Midlands province garnering 4, Bulawayo 2, Mashonaland East 1 and Mashonaland Central 2.
The head of Alfred Beit Mr Banda thanked the schools, parents and provincial heads in charge of chess for sending children to come and participate at the national chess tournament held from the 27th to 28th of May 2016 at Alfred Beit Primary in Mabelreign Harare.
