THE HARD WORKER ‘SPENCER FOR HIRE’ IS THE BOTASH CHAMP..!

It’s all smiles… The Botash Champ..!!

Well done Zimbabwe National Team player Spencer Masango (right in pic below) for winning the Botash Open in Sua Town (also known as Sowa Town) Botswana held on the 1st and 2nd of Sept 2018..! Hard work pays..! Spencer travels quite a lot in Southern African countries hunting like a true warrior… Also a couple of months back his India chess tournament venture helped a lot in keeping him strong at age 36 battling young raw Indian talent was no easy task..He is using his experience to have a good edge over his Southern African brothers..

The Best Lady in pic (left) is Botswana’s Kgomotso April Ndachipiwa. She won P3000 and a Trophy. Spencer for his effort got himself P5000 richer..Well done!!

The ever competitive and hard working Zim’s Spencer Masango (right in pic below) wins Botash Open in Sua Town Botswana with a stunning performance of 6.5/7!

He started the event as the 5th seed in the 75 player field. Top seeds were: Zambian FM Geoffrey Luanja (2304), Botswana’s IM Providence Oatlhotse (2188), FM Phemelo Khetho (2158) (BOT), FM Thato Olebile (2132) (BOT)

Spencer (2121) drew IM Providence Oatlhotse (BOT) in the 6th round and beat Otsile Mapini (BOT) in the 7th and last round to become the eventual winner.

Three players were tied on 2nd place with 6pts:
Botswana players; IM Providence Oatlhotse, FM Phemelo Khetho and Baone Kealeboga.

Top seed FM Luanja finished on 5pts, 8th place overall. Our rising Zim young star Bulawayo based Tapiwa Jele had a good 5.5pts and came overall 7th. Other Zimbabwe players who took part were; Hamilton Mandeya (5pts), Mugove Muririma (4.5pts), Lawrence Tavagwisa(4pts), Albert Maketo (4pts).

Sowa is a town which lies in the Central District of Botswana but constitutes a separate administrative district. The Sowa Township was established in 1991 by an act of Parliament, Statutory Instrument No.26 of 1991 and governed by Sowa Township Regulations, 1991 under the Township Act (Cap 40:02). The population was of 2,879 inhabitants, according to 2001 Census, and had grown to 3,598 according to the 2011 census.

Sowa means salt in the language of the San. The town is located near the SuaPan (also known as Sowa Pan), a salt pan where sodium carbonate (soda ash) is mined.
