THE GNKCA KNIGHTS BATTLE AT THE CREDIBLE ZIMBABWE INTERNATIONAL OPEN TOURNAMENT 2014/15.

The Knights invaded the Zimbabwe International Open Chess Tournament 2014/15 arena in their immaculate new royal blue branded t/shirts donated by the passionate German Embassy. They battled with other tough warlords from January 1st to January 4th 2015 in a 9 round Gladiator like bloody battle. Also the director of GNKCA John Chibvuri on behalf of the Academy would like to thank the KASPAROV CHESS FOUNDATION (KCF) & ZCF for facilitating and assisting our very humble Academy to participate in this well organized Zim Open Chess event.

Thanks for helping our ghetto youths…a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle! These young ghetto stars will never forget you: John Junior Chibvuri (5), Tinodaishe Jena (9), Panashe Edward (10), Collins Mabodongwa (11), Goodwills Fata (11), Kudzai Mhandu (12), Tinotenda Nhamburo (13), Audience Mbuwa (14), Arnold Lockman (15), Onias Nyambuya (15), Vincent Mabodongwa (15). Junior Chess Development needs teamwork and you have demonstrated just that as the Godfathers! Other non-ghetto Knights: Tawananyasha Mawire (6), Rumbidzai Mawire (8), Tapiwa Mawire (12) – family affair, as well enjoyed the Zim Open Chess jamboree. In this Zim International Open Chess event our GNKCA students got some special prizes:

  1. Collins Mabodongwa (11) scooped best U12 with 6/9.
  2. Rumbidzai Mawire (8) was best youngest girl at the event with 4/9, and
  3. John Jnr Chibvuri (5) got best youngest boy with 2/9.

All the other Knights did very well! About 150 people took part in this year’s Zim Open Section B. There was fierce competition as 5 people shared 1st place sitting at 7.5/9: Anesu Mukwepa (overal winner on bucholz), Cevan Murerwa, Heath Darare, and top Scholars Sifiso Ncube, Tapiwa Chikwavaire. They all got $250 each. In the Prestige Section A 34 top players had to battle it out for the attractive $2000 first prize! IM Gillian Bwalya from Zambia was the overall winner with 7/9, and local IM Rodwell Makoto was 2nd with 6.5/9. Call or Whatsapp GNKCA “Where we teach them young!”0773927141.
