The 2018 African Zone 4.3 Individual Chess Championships was held in Mozambique from early April to the 14th of April 2018..in pic FM Dante Beukes (1784) (right) from Namibia takes on Zambian CM Musatwe Simutowe (2239) in round 2….The young 15 year old Namib star won brilliantly in that game. Zimbabwe’s top player Spencer Masango started very well in this event winning his first 2 games vs Joseph ‘The Fear’ Mwale of Malawi and FM Phemelo Khetho of Botswana.
Angolan FM Catarino Domingos (2253) won the event with 6.5pts out of 9 Rounds. On Silver medal position was FM Phemelo Khetho (2162) from Botswana on 6pts. South Africa’s FM Calvin John Klaasen (2272) came overall third also on 6pts. Four players had 6pts. Zimbabwe’s Spencer Masango came 9th with 5pts out of 24 players in the Open Section. Namibia’s young champ Dante had 4pts and came 17th.
In the Ladies Section:
South African Megan Van Niekerk (1674) won the event with 7.5pts out of 9 Rounds. On Silver medal position was WIM Jesse Nicki February (1899) from South Africa again on 6.5pts. Botswana’s WIM Onkemetse Francis(1794) came overall third on 6pts. 21 Players were in the Ladies Section.
