Ingenious, masterly, chess virtuoso performance in Mansa Zambia..!

Zimbabwean National Team player Spencer Masango took part in the OPEN SECTION of the Chilufya Memorial Chess Tournament in Zambia scoring a good 7.5/9 attaining only wins and draws (didn’t lose any game)!. The Open Section had too many deadly Zambians ready to feast on any chess ‘tourists’. The end result was quite shocking and interesting…Tough young 1998 born Angolan IM David Silva (8/9) and our own hard working ‘Trojan’ Spencer Masango scooped Gold and Silver respectively. FM Munenga Douglas of Zambia was on 3rd tied with four other Zambian players at 7 points. The section had over 85 players with Silva and Masango being the only foreign players. Well done!! Here is how Spencer performed:

Round 1 vs CM Gondwe Kondwani Maxwell 2107 ZAM won

Round 2 vs Mayimbo Clement 2053 ZAM won

Round 3 vs IM Silva David 2245 ANG drew

Round 4 vs Lwamfwe Kabwe 2032 ZAM won

Round 5 vs Mwansa Richard 2035 ZAM won

Round 6 vs Chola Midosatos 2044 ZAM won

Round 7 vs CM Phiri Godwin 2238 ZAM drew

Round 8 vs FM Munenga Douglas D 2203 ZAM won

Round 9 vs IM Chumfwa Kelvin 2238 ZAM drew

Rating international 2218
Performance rating 2406
FIDE rtg +/- 40,0

He earned himself a very good prize of several greens.
The Open Section games ended on Monday 23rd of October 2017.

Meanwhile the Henry Chilufya Memorial Chess Tournament – GM NORM SECTION had the following 10 Chess sharks:

Starting rank list of players

7 IM Bwalya Gillan ZAM 2291
8 IM Phiri Richmond ZAM 2290
9 FM Wanyama Harold UGA 2290
10 IM Chumfwa Stanley ZAM 2278

The deadly Egyptian GM Ahmed Adly had better chances to lift the GM Norm Section Gold position as he played a tricky interesting end game of Rook and minor pieces as well as several pawns with a slight advantage vs Zambian IM Richmond Phiri in the 9th and last round leading already at 7.5/8, with the Israel GM Greenfeld Alon following closely at 6.5/8. Last round of this GM Norm section was at 3pm on Wed the 25th of October.
