Kisumu City is the third largest city in Kenya after the capital, Nairobi, and the coastal city of Mombasa. It is an inland port city on Lake Victoria and formerly known as Port Florence. It is the Capital City of Kisumu County and stands at an elevation of 1,131 m (3,711 ft), with an estimated population of 1,068,826. Kisumu City features a tropical rainforest climate with no true dry season and significant rainfall year-round. January is the driest month while the month of April receives the most rainfall. The average temperature is 22.9 degrees Celsius. It is the largest city in Western Kenya and the second most important city after Kampala in the greater Lake Victoria basin.

Some of the major attractions Kisumu City provides include:

*Kisumu Museum*
Here you will find a wide variety of fish from Lake Victoria, mambas, spitting cobras, puff adders and other venomous Kenyan snakes.

*Kisumu Impala Sanctuary*
The sanctuary is one of Kenya’s smallest wildlife preserves. It is home to a herd of impala, hippos, caged baboons and leopards, as well as many reptiles and birds are also present. Over 115 different species of birds live here.

*Dunga Beach and Wetlands*

Dunga Beach and Wetland is known for its unique eco-cultural attractions due to its biodiversity and cultural rich and diverse papyrus wetland ecosystem and local community respectively.

*Hippo Point*
Hippo Point is a viewing area on Lake Victoria. The viewing point is ideally located due to its unobstructed sunsets over the lake than for its occasional hippos.

Kit Mikayi is a large rock with three rocks on top. Kit-mikayi means "Stones of the first wife" or "First Wife Rocks" in Dholuo, the Luo language.
