Mr Wilfred Lee-roy Sithole one of the organizers had this to say….

" I’m touched by the way people are dedicated to their love for Chess.

I thank all the players who came today, especially the open section who, out of their own pockets made their way here from around Zimbabwe.

It gives me great satisfaction to see people who sacrifice being rewarded for their commitment. I felt pleased to applaud all who did well today.

On the other hand, my heart bleeds for those who returned to their homes with nothing to show for that sacrifice. It’s amazing however, the gratitude reflected in their eyes as I shook hands with them and bid them farewell and journey mercies. They thanked me and I felt happy that they felt they had benefited by coming.

…. I can’t help but be thankful for this beautiful day. I’m not the only one to be thanked in this great achievement.

I felt inadequate and unsure of everything until the two gentlemen arrived. The efforts of ZCF Technical Director Simbarashe Murimi and Keith MUGOZORI, the HCA PR Director were unparalleled. They transformed the whole place into a Proper Chess hall….. I SALUTE YOU GUYS. You’ve earned much of my respect and of those you served.

Mthokozisi Dube’s sacrifice is one never to be forgotten. Thank you our ZBC Reporter friend. Goldridge will be ever be indebted to you.

But most of all, I am and ever will be grateful for Goldridge. Mrs Bera and my colleagues have accommodated this Chess craziness and made it their own. I love Goldridge and all that it stands for. I’m humbled to be part of this great institution.

I owe everyone who helped to make the first edition of the GOLDRIDGE SPRING CHESS FESTIVAL the magical phrase~ THANK YOU!!

I wish I could give more.
The New Era is coming. ….."
