Well done GNKCA’s Rumbidzai Mawire (far right) for giving your best shots against world class competition at the World Youth Chess Championships 2014 in Durban South Africa from the 20th to 30th Sept. In her maiden appearance she faced the following tough girls:

9th: Buitendag Nanique (RSA)
10th: Tomasi Elise (FRA)
11th: Fourie Elzette (RSA)
Rumbidzai Mawire’s U10 group had 68 participants and was won by WFM Divya Deshmukh of India (1607) together with WFM Assaubayeva Bibissara of Kazakstan (1927) both sitting at 10pts. Looking at African players only in this group: 1st is Adouane Selma (ALGERIA) and Putter Nicola (RSA) both with 5.5pts, 2nd is Naidoo Priyasha (RSA) with 5pts, and on 3rd place are 6 girls; Mudodo Refiloe Hazel (in pic 2nd from right) (ZIM), Amin Lila Mohamed (EGY), Maasdorp Anell (RSA), Du Preez Sune (RSA), WFM Staal Michaela Francis (RSA) and Mawire Rumbidzai (ZIM) all sitting at 4.5pts. On 4th place follows 4 Africans with 4pts, 5th place 3 Africans with 3.5pts, 6th place 2 Africans with 3pts, 7th place 1 African with 2pts then the 8th placed African and last is a Namibian girl with 1.5pts. It was a very tough world class field!
