Ghetto Chess….!

As part of our initiative we shall always encourage and support the ghetto youths to play this strategic game….some of the very best youth national team chess players come from Zim’s hi-density surbubs. We aim to take the game to these youngsters even if it means making them play a small round robbin tournament in their convenient social gatherings …like here in the pic after some very exciting pool games (very popular nowadays in the ghetto), the youngsters can now enjoy tough and deep strategic battles in the Scotch game/gambit, Italian Opening, English Opening, Danish Gambit, Queen’s Gambit, Sicilian Defence, French Defence, Caro Kann Defence … to mention but a few. As well as employing some fantastic tactics; decoys, deflections, annihilation of defence, removing the enemy guard, skewers e.t.c… to spice up their games. Well the whole point is our ghetto youngsters should stay preoccupied and be involved in such important games inorder to make them stay away from drug abuse, alcohol abuse, dagga abuse e.t.c (now a very serious problem due to our very harsh macro economic conditions) and instill a sense of strategic thinking in their minds and consequently make them responsible adults. Focus, patience, discipline will then become the order of the day as they pursue their respective academic carriers. Well this may be easier said than done, but well its worth trying…step by step taking the kaizen approach into reckon nothing is impossible if passion and perseverance are the main tools. Let’s take the game right to their door steps! All we need is a few chess sets…and no proper venue booking/rent worries! (school or community hall venues are no longer easy to have…too expensive or too much restrictions!). Thats our ‘two cents’ we are playing in the ghetto community….as a very humble and modest organisation.
