FIDE Chess World Cup: Matches For Title And Third Place Start With Draws

Two cases of successful preparation led to quick draws on Monday in both Teimour Radjabov ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฟ vs. Ding Liren ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ, who started their FIDE World Cup final, and Yu Yangyi ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ vs. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท, who are playing a match for third place. Radjabov and Ding agreed to a draw in the 33rd move, while Yu and MVL played up to the 36th move.
The final consists of four classical games and only then, if needed, a tiebreak. The winner will earn $110,000; the runner-up, $80,000. The winner in the match for third place will earn $60,000; the loser gets $50,000.
Both matches will continue on Tuesday, October 1st. The players will switch colors: Ding Liren and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave will play with the white pieces.
The FIDE World Cup is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ. As finalists, Ding Liren and Teimour Radjabov have qualified for the 2020 Candidates’ Tournament, together with Fabiano Caruana ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Five more names will be known later. The winner of the Candidates’ Tournament will face Magnus Carlsen ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ด in the World Championship Match.
