Two cases of successful preparation led to quick draws on Monday in both Teimour Radjabov ๐ฆ๐ฟ vs. Ding Liren ๐จ๐ณ, who started their FIDE World Cup final, and Yu Yangyi ๐จ๐ณ vs. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave ๐ซ๐ท, who are playing a match for third place. Radjabov and Ding agreed to a draw in the 33rd move, while Yu and MVL played up to the 36th move.
The final consists of four classical games and only then, if needed, a tiebreak. The winner will earn $110,000; the runner-up, $80,000. The winner in the match for third place will earn $60,000; the loser gets $50,000.
Both matches will continue on Tuesday, October 1st. The players will switch colors: Ding Liren and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave will play with the white pieces.
The FIDE World Cup is taking place in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia ๐ท๐บ. As finalists, Ding Liren and Teimour Radjabov have qualified for the 2020 Candidates’ Tournament, together with Fabiano Caruana ๐บ๐ธ. Five more names will be known later. The winner of the Candidates’ Tournament will face Magnus Carlsen ๐ณ๐ด in the World Championship Match.
