Its Collins Again!!!…was our headline in our social network page a week ago on the 24th of October, and our story was:
In the Masters section at the Alfred Beit Festival on Saturday the 24th of October 2015 the wonderful and talented Knight in shining armour Collins Mabodongwa a Kundayi Pri. pupil won a gold medal with 4.5/5 and girl Knight Rumbidzai Mawire also scooped gold for coming out as top girl player in the same Masters section with 3/5….and a young fast improving 6 year old boy Knight Tinaye Madamombe a grade 1 pupil at Waterfalls Gardens Primary was amazing and incredible as he was thrown into the ‘wild jungle’ U10 Section, instead of his rightful U8 Section. Tinaye slaughtered his much older opponents all the way to garner a perfect score in the first 4 rnds only to lose in the very last 5th round, thus got a well earned Silver medal at 4/5! Well done guys!!…thanks to coaches; Yours Truly Chibvuri, Zhemba, Tavagwisa etc..and all chess supporting parents for your sacrifices, time, resources etc…the ‘Teach Them Young’ academy revolution is now bearing fruits..
…and now a week later on Satuday the 31st of October our story goes like:
Congrats!!!…Very very good news from Shingirayi Primary Tournament in Mbare held on Saturday the 31st of October 2015. Our Knights scooped top prizes. Collins Mabodongwa (right) of Kundayi Primary in Glen Norah came 1st (as usual!) out of 46 in the senior boys section with 5/5.
Our most improved girl Knight is Latricia Sibanda of Manyame Airbase Primary! Last Saturday’s strong session at our Knights Chess Academy Zimbabwe base Cabal Christian College, Gazaland Highfield paid off. Today she was in no nonsense mood as she came joint 1st in the Senior girls section with 4.5/5. Well done!!
Panashe Edward (left) our talented knight of Shiriyedenga Primary in Glen Norah played very well! In the last round he was (unfortunately) paired against Collins. Both Panashe and Collins entered the last rnd unbeaten. It was an all Knights affair on the top board 1 in the 5th rnd. Panashe later on resigned deep in the middle game after giving a strong fight..
Meanwhile, on the same day another tournament took place deep in the rural areas of Bindura. F.A Figo with other jnr chess enthusiasts ran the event.Turnout was great +120.Mupfurudzi Primary hosted their first ever chess event and they have one strong Judith Polgar…Panashe Zimbili! Well done! Taking Chess ekhaya! Our very young 6 year old Knights took part Tinaye Madamombe and Tawananyasha Mawire took part..and our future chess masters played splendidly. Tinaye got the Silver medal in the U9 section with 4.5/5. Tawananyasha settled for the 4th spot. The young bully from Alfred Beit grade 3 pupil Tadiwa Madaka scooped the gold medal. Lets keep on supporting our future masters…teach them young!
