The Zimbabwe Chess Federation in conjunction with the World Chess Federation is for the first time going to be hosting a series of Online Chess Tournaments under the theme “Checkmate Corona Virus“. The Tournaments will run from the 7th to the 13th of June 2020.
The President of ZCF, Dr Collen Tongowona highlighted that, “…As we are all aware Zimbabwe is still under lockdown and we are advised to stay home and to be safe. Therefore, we call upon all chess players and all friends of chess to play against each other at the comfort of their home being hosted by our partner chess application lichess.org and by doing that we are saying Checkmate to the Corona Virus”.
Participation in the Tournaments is absolutely free! The Tournaments are open to all Zimbabweans! So everyone can participate and win at regardless, age, sex, or level of play.
The Tournaments are simply for the fun of playing and participating. In each Tournament, “Raffle Tickets” will be awarded and a Grand Draw will be done on the 16th of June by the World Chess Federation. The best part is, you don’t win because you have won the Tournament but simply because you have participated and you have been lucky.
There are at least 1500 prizes to be won world over:
1. The Best Prize being Guest Invitation to the Chess Olympiad in Moscow Russia 2021 (air ticket & full board hotel accommodation for 6 nights) 64 people will walk away with this Prize.
