IM Khader, Sami 2405,
Our Zim board 1 IM Makoto on the White side kept his incredible form dismissing Jordanian FM Mansour to garner his overall 6th win at the Olympiad (now has 6.5pts/9)! The ever reliable board 2 Mushore (has 4.5pts/9 games) was resting today, and Zhemba had to move up to the hot board. The first timer in Olympiad chess didn”t disappoint as he pipped his opponent IM Ahmad (2355) smoothly. Now Zhemba has a total of 3.5pts/8 games he has played so far (2 wins and 3 draws). Spencer Masango had lady luck on his side today as he escaped narrowly in a very tricky ending were the opponent FM Issa Rafat had a Rook+Bishop+ 2 deadly passed pawns. Spencer’s White Queen amazingly found a perpetual check and a draw ensued. Spencer Masango has 4pts/9. Elisha Thabo who had well placed attacking pieces finally managed to bury his IM opponent Khader Sami (2405) deep in the endgame although he missed some tactical shots earlier on as he was playing safely in a long game, the last one to finish..at least he collected a valuable Olympiad point in his first World Chess event! Another IM bites the dust! Elisha has 2.5pts/5 in this event.
….a good win today by Zim Men! They now have 5.5pts over 10 Rounds played.
