AN ACCOUNT OF THE 2021 KCAZ KNIGHTS CHESS FESTIVAL

HELD: From Sat 11th to Sun 12th of December 2021

VENUE: Traditional KCAZ KNIGHTS ghetto base CABAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, GAZALAND HIGHFIELD HARARE

1st DAY Account…

We had low numbers so as to make it possible to observe the important covid regulations..a total of over 40 players were taking part.

Participants in the U20, U14 and U8 Pools/Sections enjoyed the first day of the event (3 rounds played so far of 1 hr aside chess). Players had truly missed real on the board chess!
We end our event tomorrow Sunday the 12th of December 2021 after another 3 rounds. Coach Lawrence Tavagwisa is helping with the Swiss Pairing and is the Chief Arbiter. Others helping in running the event are Michael Musekiwa, Collen Chikwature, Gilbert Zinyemba.
It was a very hot day! A parent came forward and warm heartedly donated bottles of cool water to all players! And provided a bottle of sanitizer. This helped to have a good tournament environment even for the newest participants. Thank you..very greatly appreciated!

Benson Mashanyare and Tavonga Dambamuromo were leading with 3/3 in the Snrs (U20 to U16) Section. Edith Muyambiri had her day of brilliance in this Snrs Section dismissing stiff competition from two very tough men in the 1st and 2nd Rnds. And She went down fighting in the 3rd Rnd vs Benson. A great future is ahead of this young lady!

MEDAL WINNERS IN EACH AGE GROUP 2021 KCAZ KNIGHTS CHESS FESTIVAL

Thank you everyone for supporting the 2021 KCAZ Knights Chess Festival. Well done to all the participants. Chess instills discipline, patience, concentration abilities in youngsters. It helps in strategic planning, looking for better options in every given situation; problem solving skills as well; initiative awareness and creation. Generally participants will learn that success has to be earned through; perseverance, hardwork, determination, passion and sacrifice.
There were lots of lessons in every game played. The best way to improve in any sport is to play the best. We all gain more skills in tournaments. Thus everyone is a winner!

Next year God willing we shall have more of these chess events so as to fine tune the young chess players. And thus prepare them for higher national and international events. The next events shall only be one day Saturday events. We have so much talent in these youngsters. Let’s keep supporting them in all important endeavors.

Special mention goes to two parents who made the tournament environment better for the participants by donating some items; Mrs Chimboza and Mr Muriro. And a great thanks to all parents for the support by bringing the kids.
